the Spanish armada officially started when the ships set sail from Spain in July 1588. it officially ends when Sir Francis Drake and other senior commanders defeated them in the same month. they armada had to sail around Scotland and stopped in Ireland looking for refuge, the Irish attack the Spanish sailors and only 67 ships out of the original 130 made it back to Spain. because food supplies were so short, the sailors had to revert into eating rope for survival.
