A UNESCO World Heritage Site is a place, such as a mountain, desert, monument, building or even a city that is listed by United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) as of special cultural or physical significance. The list is maintained by the international World Heritage Programme and is administered by the UNESCO World Heritage Committee. The Committee is composed of 21 states which are elected by their General Assembly. These have responsibility to take recommendation, seek out important projects and make decisions as to if it falls in the criteria.
A site can be listed as world heritage site if it is confirmed by UNESCO and nominated by somebody. Also it has to make an affect to the world like if we loose this site it does a damage to our world

There are a lot of rocks that make up Stonehenge in fact over 20 but i only know one type of rock and that rock is called bluestone
What the world heritage site does is help make sure the site is well protected by the people looking after it. obviously there would be people to care for sites and UNESCO is always there to back it up

UNESCO chooses World Heritage sites based on several factors, including how endangered the flora and fauna of an area is. It also considers what resources would be needed to try to reverse the damage done to the area.
