There was never a battle at Valley Forge, as mistakenly thought by a few people. However, because of the terrible winter and lack of provisions, over 2000 men died from disease and starvation. Scurvy was rampant since the soldiers were not furnished with the proper nutrients in their diet of firecakes.

Valley Forge is where the modern American Army was born. When the men marched into Valley Forge, after a mean defeat in Germantown and Whitemarsh, they were a concoction of farmers, laborers, lawyers, doctors, etc., who were not used to battle. However, they all had one goal, to defeat the British and save their country. Ben Franklin arranged for Baron Von Steuben of Prussia to come to Valley Forge and train George Washington's men to the proper ways of the soldiery. These brave men marched out of Valley Forge as real Soldiers, ready to do battle with the British once more.

The rest is History.

What did they do in valley forge?

Pennsylvania encampment occupied by the American army from December 1777 to June 1778. The winter was particularly harsh, and the army was short on food, clothing, and supplies. But they hung on. The leadership of Commander-in-Chief George Washington and Baron von Steuben, the Prussian drill sergeant, kept the soldiers occupied and made them better, tougher soldiers in the end. In June 19, 1778, the army set out for New Jersey, where they fought the British to a stand-still just nine days later, at the Battle of Monmouth. Among the soldiers who were encamped with Washington at Valley Forge were Generals Nathanael Greene and Benedict Arnold; Alexander Hamilton, Washington's personal aide; the Marquis de Lafayette; and a man named John Marshall, who would go on to become the first famous Chief Justice of the United States.
