It is still unclear and waiting confirmation whether Burckle Crater was created by a comet or a meteorite. If this impact was caused by a comet then the latest known impact happened around 3000-2800 BC. This would mean also that comet impacts are far more common than previously was thought.

That isn't known, but a giant explosion in Siberia in the early 1900's is theorized to have been caused by a comet, or a piece of one. Comets, as distinguished from meteoroids, meteors or asteroids, are composed of frozen gases. Meteors and asteroids are composed of denser minerals and often contain metallic nickel.
The giant explosion over Siberia on June 30, 1908, is known as the "Tunguska Event." According to eyewitness accounts, it was caused by an object falling to earth from space; however, it is unknown whether it was comet material or material from an asteroid or meteoroid. Many historians think the object was comet-like in material, since it exploded before hitting earth, and no great crater was formed, and little if any meteorite material was found.
That is the only documented occurrence during human history of a comet possibly hitting the earth. Comets are much scarcer than meteors and asteroids; hence, the likelihood of the earth getting hit by a comet is miniscule.
According to some, the Mayan calendar predicts the end of the world in 2012, as a result of the earth being struck by a comet.
Answer:Thousands of "comets" enter the earths atmosphere every day. The majority of them are destroyed while traveling through the atmosphere. Some do make it to the ground but by that time they are very small so they don't make any impact, in fact they could just be ordinary rocks. Like it says about, it is very rare for one to stay significantly large enough to be noticed by humans and cause a huge crater like in movies.
Halley's Comet was visible from Earth for the last time on the 9th of February 1986. It's expected to be able to observe it again the 28th of July of the year 2061.
Generally speaking there's almost always a comet, though many of them are very faint and only visible with telescopes. For this reason it's hard to say when the "last" one occurred.
