In 1987 The Simpsons premiered as shorts on the Tracy Ullman Show. After a three season showing, in 1989 The Simpsons began their run as a 30 minute prime time show where it continued to gain popularity over the years.
The second episode the The Simpsons aired on the 14th January 1990.
As a series, it did technically begin "in the 80s" but considering only one episode aired in that decade (December 17th 1989), the phrase in the 80s is being used very loosely.-However, The Simpsons did air as commercials bumpers on The Tracy Ullman Show which began in 1987, so The Simpsons, just not the show, did have their debut in the 80s.
The "Disney Junior" hit series "Sofia The First" is yet to air the new episodes.
