Different US states have different capitols and dates on which they were built or relocated. The capitol is the building that houses the state legislature, and is located in the city that is the state's capital.

Some capitol buildings previously housed city governments and some were built especially for the legislature, such as the Louisiana State Capitol built in Baton Rouge beginning in 1929 and dedicated in 1932. It replaced the neo-Gothic "Old Capitol Building" which dated from the establishment of the capital in 1849, and is still a state landmark.
