A major part of Christianity. Otherwise called ephiphany (celebrated on the 6th January) is when the 3 wise men/magi visited the baby Jesus (Christ). They brought him gifts of gold, myrrh and frankinsense.
They probably came to visit him by at the most when he was 2 years old. It says that they visited him in a house and not a stable so it couldn't have been on the night of his birth and since Herod the great killed every child under 2 means that Jesus had probably been not a new born. In case you're wondering if the star of Bethlehem was shining this whole time yes but only the magi actually could see it.
Christian astronomers have estimated the approximate dates of stellar activity and the length of certain events that would have likely happened at that time, but I'm not one of those people.
There are books written by Christian Astronomers, Christian Astrologers (yes, there are such people), and many "New Agers" who may shed light on the subject. (heehee)
According to Matthew's Gospel, magoi came to see Jesus, however they are commonly referred to as 'wise men' or 'kings' in English translations.. Magoi (Latin: magi) were certainly not kings, because they were priests in the service of the Persian god Ahura Mazda. By this account, Jesus must have been no older than two years and almost certainly a lot younger. When the magi arrived, they found Jesus and his parents in a house, not a stable, because in this account Bethlehem was the home town of Joseph and Mary.
Matthew 2:1 says that the magi came looking at the time Jesus was actually born: "Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem."
However, because of a conflict with Luke's Gospel, which says that Jesus was taken to Jerusalem and then Nazareth just a few weeks after his birth, some have suggested that Jesus was much older when the magi came. Matthew 2:16 says that when Herod realised that the magi had left without informing him about Jesus, he ordered that all the infant boys under two years old be killed. It can be hard to know just how old an infant is, so Herod must have thought that Jesus would certainly not have been close to two years old. There are many reasons to doubt this story, only one of which is that Luke has Jesus taken safely and peacefully to faraway Nazareth - John Shelby Spong says in Born of a Woman: A Bishop Rethinks the Birth of Jesus, Matthew was clearly writing Christian midrash.
