Possibly the earliest was sailed from London by Henry Hudson on April 17, 1610.
In 1901, another Discovery was built to go to Antarctica (the South Pole) for an expedition by Robert Falcon Scott. It was modeled after another Discovery (the bloodhound) used in the 1870s as a whaling ship.
Sir Francis Drake got "The Pelican" at the start of his first voyage of discovery, but then changed it to "Golden Hind", so at the start of his first voyage of discovery.
