The Mayflower Compact.
The Mayflower compact was a self government singed by all men aboard the May flower, signifying they were their own independent government headed to New England/America.

mayflower compact
The signers all agreed to follow the same laws for an organized government. All men on the Mayflower, both pilgrims and non-pilgrims were expected to sign it.
The colonists did NOT "sing" the Mayflower Compact (though lyricists/ artists in recent times have made songs using the Compact's words as lyrics, for teaching tools for kids)! The Pilgrims did SIGN it. It was their first governing document with entering the New World. The word compact meant an agreement. All had to agree to how they would govern themselves.
