The Transformers franchise began in 1984. It was produced by the Japanese Takara Tomy and licensed and expanded by American Hasbro toy company. They were originally Japanese toy lines Microman and Diaclone.

Megan Fox became more well known with her appearance in the original Transformers movie in 2007 as well as it's sequels. Rachel Taylor also began her mainstream career in Transformers.
The third film in the series was called "Transformers: Dark of the Moon". It started playing in theaters on June 29, 2011. That will be the last one with Shia LeBeouf as Sam Witwicky.
Well, the Transformers are Aliens. But, I don't thinks what you are asking. In truth, the Transformers started off as a toy. So, going by that, they are in fact NOT solely Japanese. They are manufactured by Hasbro, who is a US-based toy company. Now, that is not saying a Japanese person didn't design it or whatnot because it turns out that Transformers were originally created by a Japanese company named Takara Tomy. They were called Diaclone and Microman. So, in a sense, Transformers are Japanese-American.
The Transformers toyline started in 1984 so the Transformers toys would be older than the American show of Power Rangers. Transformers: The Movie came out in 1986 which would also make it older than the American Power Rangers. The TV series also beats it out with it being older than the American Power Rangers however Power Rangers originates from a Japanese TV series which fans classify as Sentai and the Sentai series is older than Transformers since Sentai started in 1975.
