All dogs generally start losing their baby teeth around 4 or 5 months and generally lasts until 6-7 months of age. If you notice baby teeth that are not coming out like normal and an adult tooth is coming, have them remove the tooth to prevent future dental problems.

Around the age of 4 to 5 months, puppies (of all breeds, including the Bichon Frise) will begin shedding their baby teeth and by the age of 7 months all permanent incisors, canines, premolars and molars should be in.

If baby teeth are retained for longer than 7 months of age, your Vet should examine your dog. Retained baby teeth frequently cause a crowding of the teeth along the gumline. This crowding displaces the permanent teeth so that they are out of line or grow at odd angles. The abnormal placement of teeth can interfere with the normal growth and development of bones in the jaws. They may contact the roof of the mouth causing injury and pain. Retained teeth may also die and abscess, causing mouth infections to develop.

You may wet and freeze rope toys, or even a carrot, to help relieve sore teething gums. Rotate his toys so he doesn't become bored. If you catch him chewing on your shoes or the TV remote, give him a stern 'no' and replace it with one of his chew toys.
