When do christians believe you truly die?

THE BIBLE states in Genesis 3:19 "I used dust to make you, and when you die, you will become dust again." (Easy to Read Version)

"for dust you are and to dust you shall return." (Amplified)

"you were made out of soil, and you will once again turn into soil." (CEV)

This tells us that before we existed as a living being, we were non-existent; we were simply dust. Before we were created / born, there was absolutely no evidence of our existence.

Genesis states that that's where we shall return to, upon our death. We came from dirt - - - we return to dirt. Dirt itself is a NON-life element.

That's what THE BIBLE states. But many people believe other things. They believe that when we die, we don't really die. Even people who call themselves 'Christian' believe such.

To put it another way: Ezekiel 18:4 states: "The soul that sins, it itself will die." Therefore 'souls' - - - do DIE. Again, some people who call themselves 'Christian' believe otherwise. They believe that when we die, we really don't die, but that something inside of us (they call a 'soul') keeps living. They teach that 'souls' are immortal. But THE BIBLE states that 'souls do die'; thus they are very 'mortal'.

The Bible even calls 'animals' - - souls. Thus when animals die, they too return to the dust, from whence they came; and they didn't even 'sin'. Nothing keeps living. They are truly dead - - when they die.

(But The Bible also teaches a 'Resurrection'. Of course that's a 'resurrection' from death. Just as God created us from dust the first time; God can easily create us from dust a second time. But in the meantime, we are dead / non-existent.)

Assuming by the use of your term 'truly' you understand that Scripture tells us that all humans will die - which is described as 'sleeping' and awaiting our call to Judgement (except the firstfruits) - then you are referring to the potential 2nd death in the Lake of Fire - permanently destroying the incorrigible, unrepentant person. But this awaits a relatively small number of humans compared to the vast majority that will receive the gift of eternal life in the God Family.
