There are few species of gecko that are very picky when it comes to mating. Female Leachie's will pick their mate. If not content with the tank mate, a female will avoid the male at all costs. She will run, bite, bark snap etc.. to push the males away. Another species to exhibit these behavioural signs are the Auckland Green gecko from New Caledonia.
It depends on the species of lizard. Some between fall and winter, some between winter and spring. not so often around the summer months but it does happen.
