The dictionary has several definitions for "Veteran" from (1) an old soldier of long service to (2) a former member of the armed forces. My opinion is a Veteran is a former soldiers who was in combat or in times of war. Of course many people who serve in the military do not to to war or even support the combat troops such as supply. Many soldiers served the country during peace time. They are considered veterans and have right to all the benefits the government provides, such as medical care and college GI Bill. When? I guess the day the soldier is honorably discharged from service.

How did the Boston masscre start?

The Boston Massacre started when some unemployed young men started throwing rocks at British Solders. The Solders lowered their muskets and killed six men. The young men had become unemployed when the solders made the former employers of the young men spend the former salaries they paid the young men on supporting solders. That action is prohibited by the Third Amendment to the United States Constitution, a part of The Bill of Rights.

What do troops think about Vietnam by 1970?

I was not in Vietnam, still, I have heard a number of men talk about it. Unlike the solders from World War 2, none of the Vietnam Veterans considered the Vietnam War worth fighting. Many were totally upset with the incompetence with the people back at the Pentagon. Many solders in the field despised the situation. Americans had to fight because South Vietnamese would not. The fighting was pointless. The solders knew either they could stay and die forever or they could get out and watch South Vietnam fall.
