There is no medical justification for docking a newborn puppy's tail but, if it's going to be done, it should be within the first 2 to 3 days of life. Check with your Vet for his/her protocol.

Your Vet should be able to tell you, but most Vets agree on between 2-7 days old.

What Does spay do to dogs behavior?

They do not get sexual urges and are, in general, more calm. Dogs that are spayed or neutered have a tendency to be less aggressive. However, spaying or neutering your dog too late in life may not have these effects on him/her.

Is 6 dogs to many dogs?

If you have six dogs living in a small apartment, then I would say yes, six dogs is too many. But if you have a house with a large yard, then six dogs isn't too many.

How old puppy tail docked performed?

Docking is a traditional practice meant to shorten or remove the tail of dogs whose original purpose put the tail in harms' way (e.g. Rottweilers were originally used sometimes to pull heavy loads in carts, so their tails were docked to keep them out of the cart's way). Breeds for which docking is traditionally usually have to have their tails docked to be shown at formal dog shows. When done for either of these purposes, it's best to dock the tail (and clip the ears, if relevant) at the same time that the dog is spayed or neutered while under anesthesia, ca. 6 months to 9 months. Dogs who are meant for breeding should still have these procedures done at that age also under anesthesia, although they cannot be spayed or neutered. All that said, docking is no longer necessary for companion dogs and should be avoided if at all possible--there is no reason to subject dogs to the pain and recovery time and anesthesia (which has its own risks).

Can you dock a Staffordshire bull terrier's tail at 5 weeks?

That is too young, you should wait longer, but the best is to not dock it at all. Why on earth would you want to dock your dogs tail? For one it is part of the dog that is marked upon when looking for typical breed charecteristics, and secondly it's just plain cruel

When is it to late to have a poodle's tail bobbed and dewclaws removed?

It is best to have all this done at a very young age, like around day 2. But It is never too late to remove dewclaws. But personaly, I have a puppy with dew claws and I do not want to take them out. But if your puppy will be digging, going through bushes, climbing or any other activities that could rip off their dew claws, then it would be beter to remove them. ( but they would be in pain when you do ) After day 2 it is too late to dock your dogs tail.

Your puppy is 6 weeks old. Is it too late to carry her to the vet to have her tail clipped?

Why do you want her tail cut off??? This is a cruel and unnecessary procedure. Dogs use their tails for signalling to each other and docking tails can cause problems such as a tail dock neuroma. I'm not sure where you live, but docking dogs tails is now illegal in the UK for these reasons. Please don't cause your dog pain just for your own benefit. I'm sure she is very happy with how she looks even if you are not!

What to put on a rottweiller tails after being cut off at home?

I used neo sporin ointment on my puppy's tail when I got her because the breeder was too cheap or ignorant to have a vet dock her tail and it healed OK.

In a rottweiler how long should a tail be docked?

Tail docking is banned in the UK, and in some other countries, check the law for your country, otherwise you could have charges of animal cruelty brought against you. Docking should always be done by a veterinarian.

Is it must to dock the tail of a Jack Russell puppies?

Jack Russell tails should be docked between 3-5 days of age, and unless you are an experienced breeder it is best if performed by a licensed veterinarian. The formula for docking tails is: take one-third OFF, leave two-thirds ON. If there are any doubts about length it is better to err on the side of too long than too short. You can always re-dock if the tail is too long but you can never add back on if docked too short.A Myth: There is no such thing as a "standard length" of tail (i.e. 4"). The length of tail when the terrier reaches maturity will vary in relation to the size of the terrier. For example, a 10" terrier will have a shorter tail than a 15" terrier and vice versa. What is important is for the tail to be in balance with the overall size of the terrier. This is also the time to have the dewclaws removed. The tails are docked for reasons of tradition and hunting.

Can you dock a tail if the dog is two weeks old?

Yes, 3 weeks is too old to dock a puppy's tail. Normally this procedure is done between the ages of 2-5 days old. You can have it done at 3 weeks but now it will be a major surgery where the puppy will have to be sedated and the tail docked and sutures put in. It will cost a lot more too.
