You know you have started your period when you see spots of blood on your underwear. most of the time you first starrt spotting then you know you have started it. but some people also get menstral cramps or boobs hurt, also even you get back aches.
I'm not sure what kind of "periods" you are talking about (since it is under business and finance section), but if you are talking about menstrual periods, you will just know. If you're not sure, wait another month and if it happens again, then you've started.
When I was in my primary school, I had a friend who did tell our teacher she had started her periods and it was all OK. But we had a very small school and our teacher was really nice.
Firstly to get pregnant you would have to start your period. If you have started at around about 11 then you would know by missing your periods. They should come monthly but if not... There you go.
