Generally we use will + verb when making a decision at the time of talking eg:

A: I am going to the supermarket now.

B: We need some milk.

A: Ok I will get some.

We use going to + verb to talk about a decision / plan already made. eg:

A: I am going to the supermarket now. I am going to get bread, cheese and some ham.

Why do British and Aussies say going instead of doing IE How are you going vs How are you doing How did I go vs How did I do?

I'm British - and I would NEVER use those terms wrongly ! They might do that in Australia, but not here in the UK! Phrases like "how are you going" - are typical errors created by the massacre of my native tongue by other English-speaking countries!
