The verb push means to shove, press, force, or thrust.

The verb close means to shut, conclude, end, finish, or terminate.

Example: You need to push hard to close that door.

The noun push is the thrust or pressure exerted.

The noun close is the end or ending, conclusion or finish.

Example: The push to bring the case to a close may have led the detectives to take shortcuts in their investigation.

Close is also an adjective describing something as near, tight, or intimate; and an adverb to describe something that is near, nearly, by, or nearby.
