Tornadoes most often occur when strong thunderstorms interact with wind shear. One thing that tornadoes must have is a pattern. They form when changes in wind speed and direction create a horizontal spinning effect in a storm cell. The result is it is then tipped straight up by rising air moving up through thunderclouds
The United states averages 1,200 tornadoes each year.
