The surface of the planet Venus is always hot, even on the night side. The thick atmosphere of carbon dioxide only absorbs about 40% of solar radiation but transports this heat around the planet. The radiational cooling at the top of the clouds does not greatly affect the temperatures nearer the ground.

The estimated temperature of the planet is a fairly consistent 460 °C (860 °F).
