In act 2 scene 1, Juliet says that Romeo should change his name. She says that if he was not a Montague she would give herself to him.
Shakespeare wrote in the 1500's in Elizabethan England in 1591. I hope you know a decade is a 100 years.
Romeo says that his name is an enemy to himself and that he wishes to have it discarded or given up in order to be with Juliet. He believes that their names (Montague and Capulet) are preventing them from being together.
