He never realizes this...here's what happened... and sorry if you already know most of this...i just don't know what you already know...

Okay so after Romeo's friend, Mercutio, was killed by Tybalt (Juliet's cousin), Romeo goes and kills Tybalt (I don't know if he killed him on purpose or just wanted to fight...) anyways, Romeo kills Tybalt and is banished to a town called Mantua. In the meantime, Juliet takes the friar's fake death potion and is buried in her family's tomb. Romeo's servant, Balthazar, travels to Mantua to tell him the news and Romeo rushes back right away to visit his love in her tomb. In the movie, and i think the play also, Romeo basically passes friar John (the assistant) on his way back to Verona. Friar John was on his way to Mantua to deliver the letter to Romeo, however, Romeo had just gone back to Verona. The reason Romeo didn't get the letter was just bad timing. If he had waited in Mantua, he would have gotten it, probably that same day. yeah.....that part is sad...:(
