when filtering, why is it necessary not to overflow the filter paper that is seatred in the funnel

Filtrate. the ones trapped by the filter paper is called the residue
Use the adequate funnel for each type of filtering; clean the funnel. Observe any manufacturer's instructions.
to filter thingsIt is used to Separate mixture in which the particles of solute are not dissolved in solvent and are big in size. So when pour the solution in the Filter Funnel the particles of Solute having large size cannot pass through filter paper and then the remaining part passes and the pure substance is obtained.
A sinterd funnel is simply a funnel with a built in filter. The filter is sintered, I think that this means that small particles are compressed together (and heated ?) to form a single piece of material with many small holes. The sintered funnels I use are made of glass, a link to some images is below (not mine). http://curlyarrow.blogspot.com/2008/01/how-to-clean-your-sintered-funnel.html I have also used sintered polyethylene and sintered stainless steel for filtering.
A filter funnel is a laboratory funnel used for separating solids from liquids via the laboratory process of filtering.
A filter funnel is a very common laboratory glassware used for the separation of substances by filtering.

Wet filter paper adheres better to the funnel.
A filter funnel is used to separate liquids and solids in a laboratory. It is used in the filtering process by folding a disk shaped filter paper into a cone an putting it in the funnel. Liquid will pass through but solids will not.

FilteringThe sand will be caught by the filter paper as residue and the water will come out the bottom of the filter funnel as the filtrate.
it's used in filtering. When filtering you'd need something to put the filter paper on and at the same time make sure that what you're filtering goes straight into the beaker/receiver. The glass funnel allows us to do that.Glass funnel is used for separating solids from liquids via the laboratory process of filteringFor transferring liquids from one container to another...Posted By: noOber Baybay 0705
Usually, it's used to separate a precipitate from the liquid in the solution. The filter paper is folded into quarters and placed in the funnel. The solution is then poured onto the filter paper, where the liquid filters through and the precipitate stays on the filter paper. The precipitate can then be saved or discarded, depending on which part of the solution you want.
