In early 2011, due to public protests similar to those in Tunisia and Egypt, he announced he would step down in 2013. He moved into a transitional role on November 23, making Vice President Hadi the Acting President. Saleh eventually officially stepped down on 2012 February 27th, ending over 3 decades of rule.
