For updates check sweetwater905.com Sweetwater 905 began as the Festival of the Sweetwater Moon in 1997 and 2000. Both events were held in the local Rolla community hall and were highly successful with featured artists such as Roy Forbes, Ken Flett, and poet Susan Musgrave. The organizing group of Donna Kane, Emilie Mattson, Marilyn Belak and Karl Mattson then took a brief hiatus before reinventing the festival on the farm of Emilie and Larry Mattson in 2005. Renamed Sweetwater 905 after the first festival date (September 9,10,11) and the address of the new festival location, the three day show featured many local artists and musicians, along with poets Donna Kane and Lorna Crozier. Sweetwater 905 had great local success with over 400 attendees and the most amazing northern lights ever seen in the Peace Region in September. It was decided that the event would be held on the Mattson's cattle farm every two years and the 2007 event featured even more local artists plus Dunster musicians, Mammaguroove, hosts of the Robson Valley Music Festival. While the Festival of the Sweetwater Moon was more a of sit down event that charged admission, Sweetwater 905 has managed to break exactly even each year even after paying for outside artist fees. The event aims to bring art into a more raw state as it is viewed and heard in barn stalls, old granaries, or in the dirt.
