A suspension bridge is usually used when the distance between ground anchor points is too great for a cantilevered bridge to support its own weight, and there is not enough room under the road span for an arched bridge.
A large distance between ground anchor points can be for many reasons; because solid ground is too far underwater for a tower, because the ground is not stable enough to support a tower, or sometimes simply for aesthetics.
The different between suspension bridge and beam bridge are beam bridge are for short distance but suspension bridge for long distance. Beam bridge are used for highway passes and suspension bridge for wide waterway passes.
