If a tornado is spotted or detected, or if a rotation is detected that is likely to lead to a tornado, that is when a warning is issued.

A watch simply means that conditions are favorable for tornadoes, but does not mean that there is an imminent threat.

So a tornado is more likely to strike when a warning is issued.

A tornado watch means that conditions are right for tornadoes to develop over the next few hours. Thunderstorms are to be expected and some of those may produce tornadoes. More urgent advisories such as severe thunderstorm warnings and tornado warnings may be issued within a tornado watch.

No. A tornado watch merely means overall conditions are favorable for tornadoes. A tornado warning means a tornado either has formed or is likely to form soon.

What is a tornado advisory?

There is nothing that is specifically called a tornado advisory, but there are two types of advisory that relate to tornadoes. A tornado watch is issued if overall conditions in a region favor the formation of tornadoes. Meaning there is a risk, but not an imminent threat. A tornado warning is more serious. This means that a tornado has been spotted or detected, or that observations of a thunderstorm indicate that one is likely to form soon. Each of these advisories has a subcategory. A PDS tornado watch (particularly dangerous situation) indicates that a system is likely to produce strong tornadoes. A tornado emergency is an unofficial variety of tornado waring that indicates a large tornado is threatening a populated area and has the potential to cause major damage.

How long does a tornado watch last?

Where and when is a tornado likely to happen?

What is worst a tornado watch or warning?

"Worse" is not the word, let's say "more important": Tornado warning is more important. A tornado "watch" means weather conditions are such that there is a possibility a tornado could form. But there have been no tornadoes as of yet. A Tornado warning means A tornado has been spotted/touched down in your alert area. You should take cover if a tornado warning is issued for your area; go into a cellar, or the lowest, most inner part of your house where there are no windows (a downstairs or basement bathroom is ideal). Tornado watch? Merely continue to monitor the weather broadcasts.

When is the next tornado going to hit Ottawa?

It is impossible to make such predictions. The farther out you try to predict a weather event, the less certain it is. Where an individual tornado is likely to hit cannot be predicted more than a few minutes in advance.

Is a tornado warning more severe or a tornado watch?

They are both important but more severe would be a tornado warning. A watch means that conditions are favorable for the development of tornadoes meaning you should be watching the weather, prepare a place to go, and watch the skies, local media, and on what ever you monitor the weather with online. I use the NWS but some people use local media and others use it all. Also, make sure that you have a NOAA weather radio to alert you if something happens

Can school be closed if under a tornado watch?

A tornado watch usually does not warrant school closure as even when one is issued the chances of a tornado striking any given location are very low. Tornado warnings, which indicate a more imminent threat, are issued on too short a time scale for school closures.
