When is friction low?

High friction is helpful for traction. For example getting a vehicle moving, making sure it turns on curves, and stopping.

Sanding might be another use of high friction.

Low friction is helpful for many other things. For example, back to the car, wheels must turn easily, engine parts must turn. Everything runs better and uses less fuel with low friction. Bearings help with lowering the friction.

Moving a heavy container from one side of the room to another might be benefited by low friction. You could either slide it... or perhaps pick it up with a low friction handtruck.

Ice skating?

As we make things move faster, even the friction of air becomes significant. So people choose aerodynamic (or low friction) shapes.

Which things causes low friction?

Smooth surfaces, lubricants, and reducing the contact area between two objects are factors that can cause low friction. Additionally, using materials with low coefficients of friction such as Teflon can also help reduce friction.

Ice skating is because you dont go fast and there is rarely any friction

Which sport requires high and low friction?

Hockey. Low friction when the player is gliding down the ice. High friction when he is propelling himself down the ice.

Does shoelace have high or low friction?

Shoelaces generally have low friction, making them easier to tie and untie. This low friction allows them to slide through the eyelets of shoes smoothly without getting stuck.

How is low friction useful in your life?

Friction can be very useful in your life. You need low friction when you ski. If you have high friction you cannot glide easily on the snow. You can also use low friction when you ice skate. If you have high friction you cant glide across the ice. When you use your laptop your keypad has to be able to glide. Some examples of high friction are erasing with your pencil, rubbing your hands together etc.

Is friction high or low on ice?

Friction is low on ice because ice has a very smooth surface, which reduces the amount of friction generated when objects slide across it. This is why it can be challenging to walk or drive on icy surfaces compared to other surfaces with higher friction.

In a compass why must the friction be low?

The friction in a compass must be low so that the compass needle can turn freely and point to magnetic north.

How does friction affect shoes?

Low friction is slippery high friction has good traction. In the sport of Curling (gliding those heavy granite stones on ice towards a bullseye) one shoe has low friction (to slide on the ice) the other has high friction (to propel the player).
