When is it hot in Portugal?

Portugal has a hot weather throughout the year. In the North of the country you will find more cold and rainy winters and in the Middle and South of the country more warm and sunny winters. Winters in Portugal are mild though.

In Lisbon city the temperatures never go below 7º Celsius and this at 6:00 am when its colder. There are many sunny days in winter.

Hot weather starts around March with temp around 25ºC but the hot weather happens in the Summer - Jun till September. Temperatures go around 30ºC-40ºC and some places it goes to 50ºC (specially in the Alentejo reagion). As an example today 26 of July 2010 it was 41ºC in Lisbon.

I personally would suggest Jun or September months to travel to Portugal since those are the months were its hot but not very hot like we see in July and August. If you want hot weather and even enjoy the Portuguese beaches and get yourself a tan then July and August is for you.

August is considered the month of vacations for Portuguese people since its the pitch of Summer here.
