Well this I believe is a very debatable question. Some doctors do not advise against, others say it is only okay during a certain trimester while others say absolutely no..period. My advice to you is for you to use your best judgment with this. We all know that drinking during pregnancy can cause tragic results and your child could be born with fetal alcohol syndrome. I have never read of any real benefits of drinking a glass of red wine while pregnant, so I personally would just say no. Why risk it if it does not have any obvious benefits. Some people say that having a glass of wine/beer ,whatever the beverage, can help you sleep if you have problems sleeping. But this cannot be true, alcohol can actually affect your sleeping and the quality of sleep will be poorer. Good luck.
Moderate drinking during pregnancy has been linked with fetal alcohol spectrum disorders (FASD). This term covers a wide range of disorders that can occur in babies and children who are exposed to alcohol during pregnancy. The disorders involve physical, mental, behavioral, and learning disabilities.
No level of alcohol use during pregnancy can be recommended as safe. Everything a mother consumes passes through her placenta to her unborn child, and therefore has the potential to affect the fetus in several different ways. See link for more information.
There is no scientific medical evidence that drinking a glass of wine during pregnancy is harmful, contrary to common belief.
