You need an elite membership to be able to but don't sell your egg next elite day you will be able to walk it because you get all of those awesome features!!

And there is a cool thing about it do not put your dragon up for adoption!! Next elite day you can buy more dragons but with the dragon you already had you can walk it you get full access to the features!! How cool is that!! By the way you might want to save up because on elite day you need 1000 coins to buy a dragon! And they come in colors.. Pink,Red,Gray,Blue,Gold,Green,Purple,and Black, White is all I think!! So enjoy pandanda... So yes and know (PLUS! your dragon developes cool abillites to dance,fly,and blow fire!
