A small background:
Lord Parthasarathy temple is a 8th Century Vaishavite temple in Thiruvallikeni (or Triplicane). It is one among the 108 Divya Desam or divine temple (the ones sang upon by Azhwars-divine saints/devotees of Lord Narayana). Thirumangai Azhwar, Thirumazhisai Azhwar have composed divine verses on this deity.
Lord Ramanujacharya, the proponent of Vishista-Advaita, a prominent Hindu school of thought, is believed to have been born due to the blessings Lord of this temple.
The main deity:
The main deity (moolavar) here is Sri Venkata Krishnan. His name is not to be confused with the Deity used for procession (Uthsava Moorthy), Lord Parthasarathy.
Please note that both Moolavar and Uthsavar are equally important in any Hindu temple. But, Temples are usually named after the Uthsava Moorthy.
It is the moolavar, Sri Venkata Krishnan who sports a majestic Moustache. (Not Sri Parthasarathy)
Venkata Krishnan can be worshipped without his characteristic moustache during the time of Pagal Paththu (The ten days before Vaikunta Ekadashi). Vaikunta Ekadashi comes in the month of Marghazhi or Margasirsha(December-January).
Please check a Hindu calendar to ascertain the exact date. The date varies year to year because of the use of Lunar calendar. In 2012, it came at December 23.
Any regular visitor to the temple would recommend visiting the temple at this time to enjoy the sight of a characteristically different Moolavar.
