There is no cure for the Swine Flu because Influenza is a mutating virus, so there is currently no cure only prevention and treatment. Often flu viruses that cause pandemics eventually "mutate" themselves away, but that is not an overnight process.

If everyone who can gets vaccinated, the swine flu H1N1/09 can be stopped more quickly.

Yes, for most people the flu is active for around a week and then symptoms fade and your body has defeated the virus. You will have life long immunity to the exact same strain of virus if you are ever exposed again. The particles of the neutralized ("killed") virus will be cleaned up and removed from your body by healthy immune systems and normal body functions. For those at higher risks for complications (see related question below), the course of the infection may be longer and outcomes worse, but that is in a low percentage of the cases of infections so far.

The H1N1 flu is like any other flu which is like any other virus. There is nothing that can be done to cure the illness itself. The body must fight it off, sometimes with the aid of an anti-viral medication, which your health care professional will prescribe if appropriate in your case. See related question below about how the body fights viruses.

That is unpredictable. It is continuing to have widespread outbreaks in the US during the fall flu season of 2009 - 2010, as well as in other northern hemisphere locations. It is the virus involved in the majority of cases of flu in the US in place of seasonal flu viruses.

Often flu viruses just disappear after moving through an area but other times they can reemerge later in another, and sometimes more deadly, wave of outbreaks and continue in waves until they eventually die out. There have now been two waves through North America and a third wave is being anticipated by some epidemiologists to come through in January.

Luckily, that is also when the vaccine is supposed to catch up with the demand, so that it will be more widely available to others besides those in the high risk groups. Vaccination is the best way to help stop the pandemic by creating immunity among the majority of the population.

Scientists are continuing to follow the outbreaks that currently continue in the pandemic in order to try to anticipate how it will progress from here.

No, it is not likely to ever end. The virus continues to mutate and return in another form.

What is the origin of the name swine lu?

Swine flu was first discovered in people working with pigs. Flu is a disease that is transmitted in various forms among people, pigs, and birds. Sometimes bird flu is transmitted to pigs, and sometime pig flu is transmitted to people. What actually happens is that a pig has pig flu and catches bird flu. A chromosome from the bird flu gets mixed with the pig flu and changes it to a different type of flu. Then a person with human flu catches pig flu. A chromosome with pig and perhaps bird flu mixes with the human flu. The flu is mainly human flu but contains pig and bird flu chromosomes. It got the name swine flu because people working with pigs caught it first. Because it has the pig and bird chromosomes, people with resistance to human flu, have less resistance to swine flu.
