I had mine removed two at a time. All four came in around the same time and was causing extreme pain. I had to take two days off from work each time because I was given Demerol for pain. But, as far as the pain and recovery, I was eating soup for one day, and solid food on the second day, (with care) I guess the pain of having them in as apposed to after they were gone, having them removed was a picnic! That was in 1981. Now they put you to sleep, and a little squirt of Nitrous, and you never know what happened, and the pain is negligable. A little discomfort maybe, and the occasional reminder that you had it done, with the glancing touch of your tongue, but that's it.

A common side affect is dry socket. That's when the blood clot created in the empty socket where the tooth was is "sucked" out, and the bone is exposed. The doctor should tell you not to smoke or eat food requiring you to "suck" for fear of dislodging the clot. Drysocket is incredibly painfull. There is a better than average chance that the dentist will add a few stiches to close your gum to aid in healing, and in general because the gums heal faster than say, a cut on a finger, he will use desolvable stiches.

Over all, its better to have them removed. There will be some discomfort, but it won't be too bad. Good luck.

Is it okay not to brush your teeth after wisdom tooth removal?

It's OK so long as you haven't eaten. If you're eating, take care that you rinse and remove any remnants of food because if these get into the wound it may not heal properly or become infected. Brushing is never a bad idea, just be very careful if you do so!

What can pregnant women take for severe wisdom tooth pain?

THE BEST THING TO TAKE is a trip to the dentist to have the "severely painful" wisdom tooth removed. I would think a localized shot of Novacaine would be much safer for your unborn baby, as opposed to taking ANY kind of pain killer orally. Plus, if your wisdom tooth is VERY painful, it's probably IMPACTED, so you could eat pain killers every day and it won't CURE it. It will only treat your symptoms (tooth pain), and will not get to the ROOT (get it?? root haha) of the problem. So please go see Dr. Happytooth as soon as possible. GOOD LUCK !

What happens if your loose baby tooth has a cavity?

I just had my top two wisdom teeth pulled a couple days ago due to cavities in each one of them. It is very painful having cavitites in them. The cavities caused both my wisdom teeth to break and fall apart down to the gum. it was causing me migranes and severe toothaches. I suggest as soon as u think u may have a cavity in a wisdom tooth get it takin care of before this happens.

Does penicillin cure dental problem such as infections?

I have a gum infection in the gum surrounding my lower right wisdom tooth, caused by the top wisdom tooth pushing against it. I began feeling discomfort which turned into pain severe enough for me to seek treatment 4 days ago. I began taking penicillin 72 hours ago, and had the top wisdom tooth removed 48 hours ago. So far, I'm in no pain relief. I'm returning to the oral surgeon tomorrow. My pain gets worse when I lay down, so sleeping is near impossible. I also cannot chew, and swallowing is very difficult.
