They will normally only spawn once a year. The female Koi start to come into breeding condition as their water temperature rises above 60F. Then they will carry their eggs either for as long as it takes for them to be spawned out by a male or the temperature starts to go down below 60F again. When the temperature drops the eggs are reabsorbed by their body before late autumn and winter set in.
