When a Supervisor merges questions, it generally goes this way:
The less-grammatically correct question is merged into the more grammatically correct question. Or, the question that hasn't been on site very long, is merged into the question that has been here much longer.
The second question (the one that is being merged) becomes an alternative wording to the first question (primary question - the one that it is merged into).
Popularity, answers, alternative wordings, links, related questions, discussion pages, etc are merged together under the primary question. The truth is simply that the supervisor chooses which question to merge. They can then look to pick a different alternate as prime if they desire or even re word the prime question.
Questions aren't track by popularity per day, so it is impossible to say what the most popular question of the day is.
The least commonly asked question is one which is not asked. There are an infinite number of questions competing for this spot.any question that has not yet been created by man's imagination is uncommonly asked. A better question is, "What language has asked the least amount of questions?"
The most popular question on WikiAnswers is How many grams of carbs are recommended per day? with a popularity of 1,529 as of February 13, 2011. See the question in the "Related Questions" section below.
Recommending questions determines how popular that specific question is. Click the "recommend question" button if you think that question is interesting. It is mostly a popularity ranking for questions around the site. See the related link for more information.

If popularity is measured by the number of questions per category, then the Chemistry category is most popular with over half a million questions.

Most Popular QuestionsWe don't yet have a centralized list of the most popular questions or topics on Wiki s. The most popular questions in a topic (FAQ section) are listed at the top of the FAQ page. "Most popular" in this context is determined by the number of times people have manually clicked to raise the Popularity level of the question. There could be other ways to determine popularity, e.g., the number of times a question is asked or the number of times a question is viewed. Seeing the most frequently asked or viewed questions on Wiki s would be very interesting. We could do the most popular questions of all time, and the most popular questions of the day, week, or month - which might show some interesting current trends. We will work on adding this feature in the future.
