Different things can happen if a bottle is placed gently on flour. If the flour is all spread out on a counter, then the bottle will leave prints in the flour. If the flour is packed tightly, then it is possible for the flour to be able to hold up the bottle.
It is a glass funnel into which can be placed a circle of folded filter paper (so that it too is the shape of the funnel) liquids may then be poured into the funnel and while the liquids will drain through (to be collected at the base of the funnel), any solids will be retained on the paper.
The Tullgren Funnel is an apparatus which helps to remove living organisms from leaf litter. Leaf litter is placed in a filter funnel which is covered with black paper. The funnel is then held over a bottle containing a mixture of alcohol and water. There is a piece of gauze present to prevent soil entering the liquid. Once the leaf litter has been placed in the funnel, the apparatus is put under a strong light for at least two weeks. The soil dries out slowly and this encourages the living organisms to move downwards.
To make pouring liquids easier, and, when filter paper is placed in a funnel, it is used as a filter.
You can use a ring placed on a laboratory stand.
Also known as a Buchner or vacuum flask, the flask uses vacuum to filter samples. A vacuum hose is attached to the hose barb and the funnel is placed on top. As the hose creates a vacuum, the sample is filtered through the funnel.
Filtrate is collected in a recipient placed under the funnel or filtration apparatus.
Usually, it's used to separate a precipitate from the liquid in the solution. The filter paper is folded into quarters and placed in the funnel. The solution is then poured onto the filter paper, where the liquid filters through and the precipitate stays on the filter paper. The precipitate can then be saved or discarded, depending on which part of the solution you want.
the air condenses and pulls the bottle in on itself
If the cover of a reagent bottle is placed on a table with the bottom down, it can pick up material from the table which would contaminate the contents of the reagent bottle after the cap is put back on the bottle.
