Lucid Dreaming
You may be able to realize you are dreaming if you wake up suddenly, and are startled or scared. If something in the dream is not realistic or could actually occur, it means you are dreaming as well.
Dreaming like whenever it felt that you are sleeping in a courtyard and suddenly you realize the fact that you are actually dreaming.
I'm assuming that you may be referring to the phenomenon of lucid dreaming, which occurs when you realize that you are dreaming and then can do whatever you want....a really fun experience. The best way, at least for me, to start lucid dreaming is to perform reality checks throughout the day, to see if you are dreaming. Very soon you will find yourself in a dream where you are performing a reality check, and quickly realize you are dreaming.
It is true to some extent. The practice is called lucid dreaming, and occurs when you realize that you are dreaming while the dream is happening and you are still asleep. Once aware that you are dreaming, you may be able to change whatever is happening in that dream. For example, if you are being chased by a monster, when you become lucid, you may be able to stop runnng, confront the monster, and demand to know what it represents and why it is chasing you. The practice can be very useful in overcoming recurring nightmares when guided by a professional therapist. However, not everyone is able to become lucid in dreams. Moreover, there is a tremendous amount of nonsense about lucid dreaming circulating on the Internet.
If you would like to lucid dream, you should start trying to remember your "normal" dream after you wake up. The purpose of this is: If you can't remember regular dreams, there isn't any way you'll be able to remember if you had a lucid dream. All lucid dreaming really is is being conscious of your surroundings while in a dream. If you can realize that you are in a dream while in your dream, you will become lucid. There are hundreds of different ways to learn to lucid dream. The most commonly used one is asking yourself throughout the day if you are in a dream. Chances are, if you do this in your dream out of habit, you will realize that you ARE dreaming, and become lucid.
The dream strongly suggests that you are not perceiving something clearly in your real life. In other words, you do not realize what is actually happening around you, and you are not judging your situation accurately.
look up Lucid Dreaming... its a method used to be "awake" in your dream
During sleep, the brain regions responsible for critical thinking and self-awareness are often less active, which can hinder the ability to realize one is dreaming. Additionally, the vividness and emotional intensity of dreams can make them feel very real, further obscuring the awareness of being in a dream state.
you're awake with your eyes open, but you kind of zone out, and don't realize what's going on because it's like a dream
Most people dream every night, but not everyone remembers that they had been dreaming.
Not much other than that you can control what you want to dream, and that you are one of the few persons who can SOMETIMES, not necessarily always, know that they are dreaming. Some studies have shown that Lucid Dreamers also can know what is happening under anesthesia. Lucid Dreaming can tell you what you want to avoid dreaming, as you change the dream. I personally am a frequent lucid dreamer. It is an interesting experience, and not well studied.
