I don't think he necessarily knew it was Poseidon for certain, but throughout the book, Odysseus knows that the gods are making him an unlucky man and that they are the reason he can't seem to get back home. He may have figured that Poseidon was part of the reason, but he couldn't point the blame on just one god because, to the humans, they all work together and it was more than just bad luck with the sea that was preventing him from getting home.
Poseidon prevented them from sailing straight back home. Instead it took Odysseus 10 years to get home.

Helios, god of the sun. after eating helioses cattle, helios tells zeus to destroy odysseuses ship with lightning. if zeus does not do as requested, then Helios will tell the sun to stop shinning. so zues stuck odysseuses ship killing everybody on board but odysseus.
