When should you first wear makeup?

Makeup should be worn whenever you feel you need, or want, it. Makeup is to enhance your natural beauty (as said in the wonderful answer below mine) or to give you self confidence with your looks. It should not be used to showcase your maturity or popularity. Only wear makeup if you feel you need it, or want it. There are no rules as the person below seems to think, and no real age limit to particular types of makeup. If it is your child who wants makeup, I would monitor what they are wearing and, as long as both of you are comfortable, give them some space to experiment with their new, exciting look. If you are a child and you would like to start wearing makeup, I would speak to your parents about it. As long as they feel comfortable with it, that's fine. If they are not, try reasoning with them, but don't get into an argument about it. They could have some valid points about why people your age shouldn't be wearing makeup.

There is no specified age to start wearing makeup. You don't have to if you don't want to. It's really your own choice and decision if and when to start wearing makeup. However if you're younger, you don't want to wear too much makeup, and there is a time and place for different kinds of makeup. Here are some guidelines but you don't have to agree.

Some girls are born loving makeup and want to start wearing it at a young age, around 6 years to 8. They really don't know how to use and wear makeup though. You should let them be little princesses though! All they should wear should be Chapstick or lip balm, to keep their lips moisturized. Remember that all people, no matter what age or skin type, should wear sunscreen with an SPF with at least 15 when exposed to long periods of direct sunlight.

At ages 8-10, girls can start wearing lipgloss in addition to lip balm.

At ages 10-12, girls can start wearing a touch of clear or brown mascara. Maybe just a little bit of eyeshadow.

At ages 12-14, girls can wear more eyeshadow, darker mascara, and maybe a little light colored or brown eyeliner. The eyeshadow should be light, nude colors, and should not wear very bright colored eyeshadow or eyeliner. They can also start doing face makeup like concealer since this is around the time that girls first experience things like discolored skin and pimples.

At ages 14-16, girls can wear more brighter makeup, including lipstick. Remember, though, not to wear very dark makeup to school, work, or anywhere during the day. This is a rule that applies to everyone! Very dark, smoky eyes and bright colored makeup should always be worn during things like onstage performances and night time, just because it's too dark for everyday wear and daytime.

Ages 16 and up can wear as much and any kind of makeup they would like to, because they are old enough.

However these are just the restrictions. There is no limit to how little you can wear. And you don't have to agree with them. It's always your own choice though and you should talk with your parents if you're unsure how much you want to wear. You don't even have to if you want to, makeup is purely your own choice if you want to enhance your natural beauty.
