Best Answer
  • Using BCC protects your recipients' private email addresses from being spread to strangers (from being released into the public domain.)
  • Using BCC helps prevent SPAM.
  • When using BCC, messages are easier on your readers because the messages contain less text to sift through. The cleaner the message, the easier it is to read.
  • Because the messages contain less text, they're smaller and require less bandwidth. They will download faster.
  • Using BCC shows your consideration of others by not publishing hundreds of your contacts to strangers.

CC dates back to making a 'carbon copy' on a typewriter. CC can be used when you want to send an exact advisory copy of the email to someone else or multiple recipients. The 'To' and 'CC' recipients names appear in the address line of the email. BCC is a 'blind carbon copy' where a copy is sent to recipients that will not appear in the email address line.

BCC, or Blind Carbon Copy, exists to send an email to multiple recipients, without disclosing the email addresses of the recipients to one another. I.e., if you were sent an email with bcc, you would only see your own email address, not the addresses of anyone else in the bcc field. It is useful if you have a large mailing list, for a newsletter for instance, and you don't want to reveal the email addresses of everyone it is sent to in order to keep their addresses and identity private.

bcc means blind carbon copy. You use it when you don't want others to know that you sent the bcc addressees the email. Some people don't want their email addresses made public in email messages. One way to prevent that is to use bcc.

Bcc stands for blank carbon copy or blank courtesy copy. You can use it when you want to include an email message recipient without the other recipients of that same email message knowing about it.

Acceptable uses of Bcc:

  1. You send an email message to several recipients simultaneously and put all of their email addresses on the Bcc line in order to either protect everyone's privacy or spare them scrolling down a long list of addresses before they reach the actual message.
  2. You Bcc yourself while sending an email message to another person in order to receive a copy of your own message.

Controversial use of Bcc: You send a message to one or more people openly (with their email addresses on the To or Cc lines that are both visible to all recipients), but secretly include another recipient or more on the Bcc line. The Bcc'd individuals can see who the message was intended for while the principal recipients don't know there are others "eavesdropping" on the conversation.

How do you use Bcc in sending email messages?

BCC stands for Blind Carbon Copy. When you use CC you let all the e-mail receivers know who received a copy of the e-mail. When you use BCC, the members of the BCC group are not revealed to the other people who receive the e-mail. If you receive an e-mail that shows the only recipient as the sender, it probably means that your e-mail address was included on the BCC line.

Use the "bc" or "bcc" feature otherwise known as blind copy (you have the options of using "to", "cc" (carbon-copy), or bcc (blind copy or blind carbon copy) when sending emails. People will only see that the email was sent to "undisclosed recipients" if you use bc or bcc.

One drawback is that everyone who receives the email will know the email address of everyone else. You can preserve privacy by using BCC or 'blind copy'. Any address in the BCC will be hidden.

What are advantages to using Bcc and cc?

BCC is the same as CC, except that the BCC field isn't public. An email sent to you via BCC will look as if it was sent normally and magically ended up in your inbox. This is handy for mailing lists, as you could send an email to yourself or nobody and have all of the recipients in the BCC field, protecting their privacy.
