There is some evidence that the earliest people to settle in Barbados arrived around 1623 BC. Amerindians from Venezuela arrived between about 350 to 650 AD. The Arawaks arrived in 800 AD and the Caribs arrived in 1200 AD.
The Portuguese and the Spanish visited Barbados, but England was the first country to establish a lasting settlement there in 1627.
The term settled is objectionable. The british arrived in Barbados in 1625 by some accounts and the laid claim in 1627 (officially).
