They are not related. He is not even related to the man that carried the Manson last name. He raised Charles for a short time. His 16-year-old mother, Kathleen Maddox was promiscuous, a criminal, drank too much and failed to take care of her illegitimate child. Soon after his birth, Kathleen was briefly married to William Manson, and Charlie's last name changed from Maddox to Manson.

Author Jeff Guinn's new book Manson: The Life and Times of Charles Manson claims to have found a sister of Manson's. I have not read the book so I have no idea if the author's research is accurate. It is entirely possible that Manson did have unheard of siblings that maybe even he didn't know about. I would like some DNA evidence to prove this one way or another.

Helter Skelter, as it pertains to Charles Manson, was his version of a race war between whites and blacks. He was inspired by the song Helter Skelter, a Beatles song, on their White album. Manson was obsessed with the Beatles and felt they were sending him messages in their music. Manson is the 'poster child' of what happens when you take too many drugs, especially LSD. *The term helter skelter means upheaval and/or anarchy.
