The town of Bridgwater lies along both sides of the River Parrett.
It is a river drainage pattern...as a river flows along a valley, small tributaries feed into it from the steep slopes of the valley sides and they enter the main river at about an angle of 90 degrees, causing a trellis like appearance of the drainage system. The Trellis system is the alternative to the Dendritic System, which means that tributaries flow into the main river following a pattern like branches of trees
A v-shaped valley eroded by a river is called a river valley. This type of valley is characterized by steep sides and a narrow bottom, formed by the erosive action of the river over time.
A young river valley typically has a V-shape profile, with steep sides and a narrow channel. This shape is formed through the erosive action of the flowing water cutting down into the landscape. Over time, the valley may widen and deepen as the river continues to erode the surrounding rock or sediment.
The Ohio River flows east to west at Cincinnati's southern border with Bromley, Ludlow, Covington, Newport, Dayton and Ft. Thomas, Kentucky on the other side of the river. The river is actually part of the state of Kentucky from the low water mark. So the Ohio technically flows NEXT TO not through Cincinnati. The Mill Creek Flows through the city north to south pretty much bisecting the city's east and west sides and empties into the Ohio River just west of downtown. The Little Miami River flows through the Eastern suburbs of Cincinnati between Mt. Lookout and Mt. Washington suburbs and empties into the Ohio River just east of Lunken Airport at the base of Mt. Washington,

Wisconsin, Illinois, Kentucky, Tennessee, and Mississippi are along the east side of the Mississippi River. The river also flows through Minnesota and Louisiana so that it is on both sides of the river in those states.
Although the Missouri flows across a greaterdistance, the Mississippi River is connected to more states, along the borders of 10 US states. (It actually only runs through from 2 to 6, the ones that have land on both sides of the river or islands in the middle.)
A steep-sided valley is typically formed through erosion by rivers or glaciers. As water flows, it cuts down into the land, creating steep sides. Glaciers can also carve out steep U-shaped valleys through the process of scouring and plucking.
