Switzerland is considered a nation state. It is a country with a defined territory, a permanent population, a government, and the capacity to enter into relations with other states. Switzerland is not a stateless nation, part-nation state, or multinational state.
The six components of a nation-state are population, territory, government, sovereignty, organization, and recognition. These elements come together to define a nation-state as a political entity recognized as a sovereign country.

A nation-state is a state, or country, that has defined borders and territory. It is additionally a country in which a nation of principally the same type of people exists, organized by either race or cultural background. In the nation-state, generally, everyone would speak the same language, probably practice the same or similar types of religion, and share a set of cultural, "national," values.
When a state or nation has control over its own territory that state or nation is said to have sovereignty. This type of sovereignty is called internal or territorial sovereignty.
