A civil body politic means that they wanted to establish a government for their colony. They already knew what religion they were going to establish, but in order for all to live peacefully, they wanted to establish a government that would be accepted by all and all would agree to the rules and regulations of the civil authorities.

Were there live animals on the Mayflower?

Yes. The English colonists' writings mention that two dogs (a spaniel and a mastiff) were brought on the 1620 voyage of the Mayflower. A reference from a 1623 letter leads historians to believe that there were probably goats, pigs and chickens, and possibly even a cow or two on the Mayflower as well.

How did the two dogs die on the Mayflower?

There is no documented evidence that two dogs died on the Mayflower during its journey to America. The only known pet aboard the Mayflower was a dog named "Butten," belonging to William Butten, a servant of Samuel Fuller. However, there is no mention of Butten's fate or any other dogs on the ship perishing during the journey.

What date did the pilgirims land on Plymouth?

There seems to be some dispute as to the exact date of the Pilgrim's arrival near Plymouth, at Cape Cod. It is reported that the Mayflower Compact, an self-governance agreement, was signed by the men on board before landing near Cape Cod on November 20, 1620. Several other references mention dates for the landing as December 11th, December 21st, and December 31, 1620.

Why were pilgrims miserable?

They were miserable on the Mayflower only. They were miserable on their journey in the Mayflower over the frigid Atlantic as it was close to winter, with many people dying, with food and water being scarce, and what was there was polluted, not to mention the possibility of rats and whatever other birds and such was there. Plus, diseases and illnesses being rampant, as no one could leave the boat and not be infected.
