Refilling extinguishers: Maintenance and operating costs.
Fire extinguishers are an excellent way to stop a fire. But it is important that the correct type of extinguisher is used on a fire, and it is also critical that the person using it be familiar with at least the basics. Use the P.A.S.S. strategy. When using a fire extinguisher, pull the pin, aimthe nozzle at the base of the flames, squeeze the trigger, and sweep the nozzle from side to side to extinguish the flames. You'll pull, aim, squeeze and sweep (PASS) to use the device. The prompt use of an extinguisher to put out a small fire will prevent the spread of that fire and the subsequent danger to life and also damage to property. It is critical that those in a workplace know where extinguishers are (as well as the exits and evacuation plans), and know how to use these devices.A smart person who acts immediately with knowledge and consideration can do in seconds what it would take several pieces of fire equipment and all those firefighters an hour or more to do when responding a few minutes after a fire starts. The prepared individual can nip a problem in the bud with clear thinking and prompt action.
Pull (the pin) Aim (at the base of the fire) Squeeze (the handles together) Sweep (along the base of the fire)
Firefighting equipment is technical equipment designed to rescue people and protect valuable goods and natural resources from fire. Fire-fighting equipment includes fire-extinguishers, fire-alarm systems, hands-free extractors (HFE), and many more. Alike fire-extinguishers and fire-alarm systems, the Hands-Free Extractorβs simple design and compact storage make it a convenient product to use while having a fire.
It is the mnemonic for using a fire extinguisher--a very important tool to have in the kitchen. Point Aim Squeeze and Sweep.
Among other tings, it is a reminder of how to use a fire extinguisher. Pull the pin. Aim at the bottom of the fire. Squeeze the handle hard, Sweep the spray across the fire.
~ P - Pull the pin. It is there to prevent accidental discharge.~ A - Aim low at the base of the fire. This is the where the fuel source is.~ S - Squeeze the lever above the handle. Release to stop the flow. (Some extinguishers have a button instead of a lever)~ S - Sweep from side to side. Move toward the fire, aiming low at its base. Sweep until all flames are extinguished. Watch for re-igniting. Repeat as necessary. Have site inspected by fire department.Place any fire extinguisher that has been used on its side on the floor. It will be collected and recharged after the fire scene is secure.

Your question poses questions of its own. If a fire occurs in a school kitchen the precautions have already been ignored. If a fire does occur and it is under the hood suppression system, pull the fire alarm pull station and the hood suppression pull station on your way out of the building. This alerts the building occupants of the hazard and is a first line approach to dousing the fire. Evacuate and let the fire department do the rest. If you have been properly trained you may choose to use the fire extinguisher. Do so only after pulling the fire alarm pull station to begin evacuation of the school. Use the fire extinguisher by applying the PASS method. Pull the pin, Aim at the base of the fire, Squeeze the handle, and Sweep back and forth until the fire is extinguished. Make certain you are using the correct type of fire extinguisher for the type of fire. You will learn the appropriate types of extinguishers upon taking fire extinguisher training. Good luck!
What the heck is "the pass?
To come to pass means that something occurs. "It will come to pass" means it will happen.
