Brandenburger Tor
The Brandenburger Tor, or Brandenburg Gate, was commissioned by King Frederick William II of Prussia and constructed between 1788 and 1791. Designed by architect Carl Gotthard Langhans, it was inspired by the Propylaea of the Acropolis in Athens. The monument has since become a symbol of Berlin and German unity.
