Lady Brilliana Harley had defended her castle to the highest degrade. Prior to the breakout of the English Civil War between Parliament and Charlles I and his Royal followers (Roundheads VS Cavaliers). She had drained the moat that surrounded her castle. Lady Brilliana defended the castle from Royalists however she became ill in 1643 from a cold, that historians have believed to be from stress of defending her home. She died and three months later Royalists returned and sacked the castle. Killing maids and buttlers as well as Brillianas children.
