Patchway was where the original factory was although some people refer to it as being in Filton. These two suburbs are next door to each other and the origins of Bristol cars was from the Bristol Aeroplane Company who used Filton Aerodrome as their airstrip for the planes they made.

There was also Bristol Commercial Vehicles, which was merged into Leyland and closed down in 1983. Leyland was later bought out by PACCAR, Inc. (who also own Peterbilt, Kenworth, and DAF), and the marque was later retired by PACCAR.
